General tips for travellers
Citizens of many countries can enter Ukraine without a visa with just a passport alone, for periods of up to 90 days out of 180:
EU nations, USA, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Vatican, Iceland, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Mongolia, Lithuania and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan).
General info and tips for travellers: • Use your common sense to make your visit to Ukraine enjoyable and safe.
• The capital of Ukraine — Kiev (or Kyiv) — has over 3 million people.
• The national currency Hryvnia (UAH) and its one hundredth part- kopiyka. Money can be exchanged: at banks, exchange desks at the hotels, some shops, licensed exchange booths in the streets. • Currency exchange rates: 1 USD: 7,92; 2 EUR: 11,18.
• ATM machines are all over the place and almost always within easy walking distance. They typically give out money in Ukrainian Hryvnias only.
• The Kyiv Boryspil international airport is located 15 km to the southeast of Kyiv. Walk up to the taxi stand INSIDE of the terminal 50 m from where you come out into the lobby and talk to a young lady there. The standard price these days is 160-240 UAH ($20-30 USD), depending on where you need to go to within Kyiv. As a rule taxi drivers do not speak English. Unless you speak the language, show a note with the destination written in Ukrainian or Russian (or the name of your hotel), and ask the price before you sit in a taxi. Keep in mind taxis usually accept dollars and Euros. However it is not a bad idea to change about $30 at the airport. Don't change more. Exchange rates are better in the city centre. Don’t change money with strangers in the street. Illegal currency exchange in Ukraine is a criminal offense.
